PowPAC, Poway?s Community Theatre, has a special treat for audiences this holiday season: a heart-warming play the whole family will enjoy. ?You Better Watch Out? runs Dec. 3-19. This is the second year in a row that PowPAC has presented Don Hodgins? popular Christmas play, with Heidi Ward once again directing. The show is produced by Sherrie Colbourn and Sabato Fiorello.
?This is a wonderful story about discovering the spirit of the holiday season,? says Producer Sherrie Colbourn. ?This has been a tough year for many Americans, and sometimes we don?t see the good in our lives, even when it?s right in front of our eyes. We hope that audiences will be entertained, but more importantly, they leave the theater filled with the joy and warmth this season is all about.?
Director Heidi Ward says the combination of elements mold a memorable play. ?The audiences both young and old will enjoy the variety of the characters, and how they mix the comedy and drama of the holiday season.?
The story is set on Christmas Eve at the Willow Inn. The hosts Jenny and Tom are having Art, Jenny's father, who is still mourning the passing of his wife, see their bed-and-breakfast for the very first time. Three more travelers are forced to lodge at the inn as a snowstorm is raging outside. Those waiting it out are Rudy and Marsha, who run a costume business together, and a mysterious but cheerful man who claims to be in the delivery business, named Mr. Smith. Only the Inn 's handyman, Andy, sees who Mr. Smith really is, the spirit of Christmas. Andy must help Art, who has been in a dark place for a very long time, see the joy of Christmas and discover who Mr. Smith really is.
Ward adds, ?I think the essence of the play is about bringing us together as a people through optimism, courtesy and hospitality.?
The cast includes Renee Gandola as Jenny Ryan, Craig McCobb as Tom Ryan, Vet Woolf as Andy, Haig Koshkarian as Art Cramer, Patrick Stowe as Rudy Poznarski, Katie O?Brien as Marsha Poznarski, and Ed ?Ted? Ewert as Mr. Smith.
