Mr. Tambourine Man not only lived history, he made history with his fearless sense of experimentation. As the leader of the influential ‘60s group, The Byrds, Roger McGuinn was on the leading edge of that era, combining the rock beat of the Beatles with the folk sensibilities of Bob Dylan. In fact, the Byrds have been credited for being in the forefront of Folk Rock, Psychedelic Rock and the groundbreaking genre of Country Rock. Among McGuinn’s better known songs are “Eight Miles High,” “Turn! Turn! Turn!,” “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” and “The Ballad of Easy Rider.”
The album he conceived, Sweetheart of the Rodeo, together with fellow Byrd member, Chris Hillman, is widely considered as one of the most influential country rock albums of all time. Rolling Stone lists it among its 500 Greatest Albums. McGuinn was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with the Byrds, and is a three-time Grammy nominee. Roger McGuinn left a legendary mark on 20th century American music, and this concert will be a rich reminder of his many contributions.
