SUMMARY:The Spitfire Grill
DESCRIPTION:A heartwarming story of forgiveness and friendship combined with the power of compassion is at the core of "The Spitfire Grill"\, a musical by James Valcq and Fred Alley that is based on the 1996 film by Lee David Zlotoff. Performances run October 22 through November 21 at PowPAC's Community Theatre. The show is directed by Raylene J. Wall\, with music direction by Kirk Valles\, and produced by Debbie David and Lynn Wolsey.\n\n\n\nWhat's unique about this show is that it's not your typical musical. It has homespun charm\, using a blend of country\, rock\, blue grass\, pop ballads\, and even a lullaby of sorts\, to keep the music fresh and compelling\, says Director Raylene J. Wall.\n\n\n\nIt's a story about what one person can do to change the lives of others in a town where residents feel they have no hope and no future.\n\n\n\nThe musical is about a feisty parolee who follows her dreams based on a page from an old travel book\, to a small town in Wisconsin. She finds work at Hannah's Spitfire Grill. There are no takers for this eatery for sale in the small depressed town. So newcomer Percy suggests to Hannah that she raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars\, and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon\, mail pours in\, as business picks up.\n\n\n\nWall says audiences are in for a special treat. "The music is amazing\, the story is wonderful\, and we have a fantastic lead\, Megan Barrow as Percy. She is new to PowPAC\, and holy cow can this girl sing!"\n\n\n\nThe cast of "The Spitfire Grill" features Megan Barrow\, Kate Hewitt\, Miranda Porter\, Craig McCobb\, Michael Mentz\, Shaela Parrott\, and Tony Bejarano.\n\n\n\nWall hopes that audiences will connect with the story just as she did. "The music is brilliant and the story is timeless. While there are some dramatic parts\, there are also moments of laughter and sadness\, and I promise that you will be moved by what you see and hear."\n\n\n\nPoway's Community Theatre\, now in its 29th season\, offers a cozy and intimate setting to watch first-class performers. The theatre is located upstairs in the Lively Center at 13250 Poway Road in Poway. For easier access\, an elevator with additional parking is available behind the building.
