SUMMARY:Soroptimist Hats and Heels
DESCRIPTION:These past 18 months under Covid restrictions have negatively impacted women to a high degree\, especially\n\nthe economically disadvantaged .\n\n \n\nWomen are empowered when they have control over their own finances and well-being\,\n\nand when they have a voice in the decisions to shape their lives and the lives of their families.\n\nThey gain a sense of autonomy\, self-confidence\, and the power to control their private and public lives.\n\nOur signature program Transitional Housing is for domestic violence survivors. Since our program\n\nbegan in 1997\, 76 moms and 189 children have successfully graduated to live independent lives.\n\nProviding this immediate need helps secure a future for this woman and her children. We subsidize her\n\nrent for up to 18 months. As they have escaped a domestic violent environment\, often with just their clothes\, we completely furnish the apartment and stock the kitchen. This time allows them to complete their education\, get a GED or secure employment. In conjunction with Crisis House we also provide mentorship to the moms. It is a\n\nhand up not a hand out program.\n\n \n\nFunds from this annual event which is held jointly with our sister club North County Soroptimist will be held again virtually May 7th 5-6 pm secures the funds subsidizes 5 apartments and other Soroptimist programs benefiting women and girls. No funds from the event are used For salaries.
