DESCRIPTION:This meeting\, which is put together by the Government Affairs Committee\, provides the Chamber's membership and Board with input on local\, county\, state and federal legislative issues. This month we are excited to welcome Jack Pellegrino\, the Director of Purchasing and Contracting for the County of San Diego! Jack will be discussing best practices to become a partner with the County to help grow your business.\n\n\n\n***OPEN TO ALL CHAMBER MEMBERS***\n\n\n\n\n\nJack Pellegrino\, NIGP-CPP\, CPPO\, CPCM \n\nDirector \n\nDepartment of Purchasing & Contracting \n\nCounty of San Diego\n\n\nJack is the Director of Purchasing and Contracting for the County of San Diego\, which is the 2nd most populous county in California and the 5th in the United States\, serving over 3.2 million residents. The Department of Purchasing & Contracting's department-aligned procurement team awards over 1\,200 new contracts yearly\, supporting the County's 48 departments. The county's annual procurement spending exceeds $2.0 billion of the county's $8.48 billion annual budget. \n\nJack has four decades of Government contracting\, procurement\, and supply chain management experience\, leading diverse contracting\, procurement\, and pricing staff teams in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining the County\, Jack held executive contracting and procurement positions in the private sector\, supporting a wide range of government customers. He is an adjunct lecturer and Managing Director of the Supply Chain Management Institute at the University of San Diego (USD). Jack is a Past President of the California Association of Public Procurement Officials (CAPPO) and currently serves as a member of the Governing Board for The Institute for Public Procurement (NIGP) and the NIGP-Certified Procurement Professional (NIGP CPP) Program. Recently\, Jack joined the National Association of Counties - Public Promise Procurement Advisory Board\, which was formed to strengthen public entities purchasing power\, providing best-in-class cooperative contracts for goods and services for public agencies. \n\nHis professional awards include: \n\nInaugural 2015 Walt Ekard Integrity in Action Award.\n\n\n\n2016 County of San Diego CAO Excellence in Leadership Award. \n\n\n\n2020 CSAC County Procurement Executive of the Year for the Southern Region. \n\n\n\n2023 Public Agency of the Year\, MVP Business Inclusion\, for the Southeastern Live Well Center awarded by the National Black Contractors Association of U.S.A. (NBCA) \n\nJack holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Benedictine College in Atchison\, Kansas\; a Master of Science degree in Procurement & Acquisition Management from Northrop University (Northrop Rice Aviation Institute)\; and an Advanced Specialization in Government Contract Management from UCLA.
