May 13    San Diego Folk Heritage Presents: Evie Ladin Band w/ Keith Terry and Erik Pears
"She can write, she can sing, and she pulls back from the saccharine brink with wit - a sharp intelligence."   -Grant Alden, NO DEPRESSION On Friday, May 13, 2016 at 7:30pm, San Diego Folk Heritage will host neo-trad kinetic folk trio Evie Ladin Band as they celebrate their 2016 release Jump the Fire. The all ages event will take place at Templar?s Hall in Old Poway Park (14134 Midland Rd. - Poway, CA 92064). Admission is $15 for members and $18 standard. Students with school I.D. receive the member price, and youth ages 12 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door or online. About Evie Ladin Band: Tenacious, innovative string musicians/dancers with a quirky neo-trad soul, the ELB throws down soulful folk songs with an unusual live show. Their 2012 eponymous release won Americana Album of the Year from the Independent Music Awards Vox Pop Vote. "You don't often hear words like "traditional," and "authentic" paired with "innovative" and "unique," but Evie Ladin has brought them together brilliantly, and the result is truly a high point in new old-time music."  -FOLKWORKS, Los Angeles The polyrhythmic heat of Evie?s clawhammer banjo, resonant voice, real stories and rhythmic dance have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Celtic Connections, Lincoln Center to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Known as a driving force behind San Francisco?s Stairwell Sisters, Evie grew up in an East Coast traditional music scene, but has always lived in urban centers ? which all informs her songwriting, praised for making people laugh and cry. "Ladin's voice is sultry, wistful and defiant all at once. She possesses a keen songwriting sense and a stable of strong musicians to back her up."  -POP MATTERS  Keith Terry (bass, Body Music, vocals) is a renowned percussionist/rhythm dancer, and the founder of the International Body Music Festival. A pioneer in contemporary Body Music, Keith produces large-scale intercultural collaborations and educational outreach. Keith brings a cinematic ear to playing bass as tonal percussion, with bells, box, body and toys. Erik Pearson (guitar, banjo, vocals) is a musician?s musician who recently visited Folk Heritage as part of the Crooked Jades, and also plays with storyteller Diane Ferlatte. His original banjo tune Fork and File was the soundtrack for a rapids rafting scene in Sean Penn?s movie Into the Wild. San Diego Folk Heritage is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the folk arts in Southern California. May 14    Reduced Shakespeare Company: The Complete History of Comedy (abridged)
They've skewered history, the Bible and the world's most celebrated playwright. Now, Reduced Shakespeare Company tackles the subject it was born to reduce. From the highbrow to the low,The Complete History of Comedy (abridged) covers comedy through the ages, from Aristophanes and Shakespeare to Charlie Chaplin and the Daily Show. From cavemen telling "Rock Rock" jokes to Chris Rock and everything in between, the bad boys of abridgement leave no joke untold as they deconstruct the entire history of comedy in 90 rollicking minutes. As one would expect in the examination of the History of Comedy, the show contains strong language and sexual innuendo.
